‘Community Buy Back’ project for National Customer Service Week

A  Smethwick care home for people with dementia has enjoyed a make-over thanks to the generosity of council staff and local contractors and suppliers.

Fountain Court, in Millpool Way, Bearwood provides residential care for 16 residents.

Volunteers from Sandwell Council’s repairs and maintenance team along with two of their contractors – Dodd Group,  and Graham, decorated community lounge rooms, fitted new lighting to the garden room, improved ventilation in the laundry and installed extra lighting to improve security at the home.

Walkways in the home’s garden area were also improved thanks to Stourbridge Paving Company Ltd.

Also joining in with the facelift were Johnstone Paints which donated 80 litres of paint;  City Electrical Factors (Sutton Coldfield) which donated electrical materials and Cubic FM Ltd which donated 64 work hours,

Sharon Billinge, manager at Fountain Court, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone involved for their contribution whether it was supplying materials and equipment or their time and professional expertise.

All of the works have been carried out to a very high standard and  everyone was courteous and polite, and mindful they were working in a person’s home.

“The improvements are very much appreciated and will enhance the comfort and enjoyment of our residents. Visitors have already commented how clean and fresh our communal lounges now look.

“The volunteers  who spent time with the residents also made the day even more special.”

Deputy leader Councillor Syeda Khatun, said: “The facelift at Fountain Court was part of a programme of activities carried out as part of National Customer Service Week which saw council staff and volunteers doing some important and worthwhile work in the community.”
