A Tipton transition centre for young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions has been given a big make-over – thanks to the generosity of council staff and local contractors and suppliers.
A group of volunteers and contractors worked together to decorate rooms and corridors at The Bridge Centre in St. Marks Road Tipton with materials provided by suppliers.
The volunteers from Sandwell Council’s repairs and maintenance team and workers from the Dodd Group and Graham also fitted new outside lighting and improved facilities in the assisted shower room.
Other companies joined in the facelift, with Johnstone Paints donating 50 litres of paint, City Electrical Factors (Sutton Coldfield) provided electrical materials and a TV for the entrance area.
Mercia installed a shutter to improve security at the building, Woodhull Roofing supported by Alliance Scaffolding are installing a new flat roof to a section of the building and BAT have tarmacked sections of the car park and re lined it whilst Cubic FM Ltd have donated 64 work hours.
Councillor Bob Lloyd, cabinet member for inclusive economic growth, said: “This is a remarkable example of the council and companies working together to provide improved facilities for these vulnerable young people.
“We are so grateful to everyone involved for their contribution whether it was supplying materials and equipment or their time and professional expertise.”
Debbie Robinson, manager at The Bridge Centre, said: “All of the works have been carried out to a very high standard and everyone was courteous and polite, and mindful they were working in an environment where service users and visitors were in attendance.
“The improvements are very much appreciated and will enhance the comfort and enjoyment of our service users. Visitors have already commented how clean and fresh our communal area now looks.”
