New homes, adjacent to Hawes Lane in Rowley Regis

The building of fifteen new homes is underway in Rowley Regis, on land adjacent to Hawes Lane. The development comprises seven houses, two bungalows and six apartments – including accessible and adaptable dwellings in accordance with Building Regulations in England.

Urban Design and Building Services (UDBS) is proud to have key roles in the Hawes Lane development: architecture and landscape architecture services, quantity surveying and structural engineering.

The project makes use of a previously underutilised site split across two sections of Stanford Drive. The site has proved tricky to work with due to a steep incline from south to north, so we are pleased to be maximising its potential. We have retained existing mature trees within the overall design, for example – including an ash tree, a species that is diminishing in the UK.

This is the first project in Sandwell to have individual air source heat pumps to supply the new homes, further enhancing its green credentials.

The Hawes Lane development is part of Sandwell Council’s initiative to provide more affordable housing across the borough. Our client is the Housing Partnerships Team at the council, while the building contractor is Tricas Construction. Ridge & Partners is our partner for both civil engineering and mechanical and electrical services.

The project broke ground in May 2023 and we look forward to updating you on its completion in 2024.
